Aims of the National Curriculum

Children should:

• become fluent in basic maths skills
• be able to recall and apply knowledge quickly and accurately
• reason mathematically; making use and making sense of all mathematical skills
• Solve problems by applying knowledge

What can you do at home?

As with reading and writing it is important to regularly practice and apply maths skills. 

Nursery

• Sing counting songs
• Tell stories such as the 3 bears - you can count 3 bears, 3 bowls, 3 chairs, 3 beds.
•  Bake with your child modelling how to use measuring equipment.
