Aims of the National Curriculum
Children should:
- become fluent in basic maths skills
- be able to recall and apply knowledge quickly and accurately
- reason mathematically; making use and making sense of all mathematical skills
- Solve problems by applying knowledge
What can you do at home?
As with reading and writing it is important to regularly practice and apply maths skills.
Nursery
- Sing counting songs
- Tell stories such as the 3 bears - you can count 3 bears, 3 bowls, 3 chairs, 3 beds.
- Bake with your child modelling how to use measuring equipment.
